Whitepaper: Accuracy Report on the Elios 3’s LiDAR Payload

How does the Elios 3’s Rev 7 LiDAR in the Surveying Payload perform? This whitepaper, authored by Flyability explores the capabilities of this LiDAR sensor in various challenging environments the Elios 3 may be deployed in.
The Elios 3’s LiDAR scanner that is part of the Surveying Payload is an Ouster OS0-128 Rev 7 model. Capable of capturing 1 million points per second with a range of over 100 meters, this is the most powerful LiDAR scanner that we’ve mounted on the Elios 3 so far!
In this whitepaper authored by Flyability, we assess how this LiDAR payload as well as its partner software FARO Connect performs in different scenarios. We want to investigate how its accuracy can be impacted while being subjected to increasingly challenging data collection locations, including highly symmetrical spaces.
The contents of this whitepaper include a definition and comparison of accuracy versus precision, an overview of the new and old LiDAR sensors, followed by testing in different environments. The intention is to challenge the accuracy of the payloads in data collection scenarios of increasing difficulty to see the performance of the payloads in progressively complex situations. In the conclusion, Flyability explains how the Surveying Payload renders results that are accurate to within +/- 1 centimeter, matching industry requirements for many sectors.
All Elios 3 payloads are compatible with the high-capacity battery; however, users should consult the user manual to understand how different payloads and environmental conditions may affect flight performance and control. There is a mandatory firmware upgrade required for users of the high-capacity battery to enable the Elios 3 to fly with the new unit. The high-capacity battery is being shown at select expositions and tradeshows by the Flyability team – Please reach out to us to know more nearest event.
